Ashton
Band Educator — Ithaca College B.M. Music Education
Ashton leads Hilton's full band program, which means tuba students get a teacher who has worked with low brass from the ground up. He studied music education at Ithaca College with an oboe concentration — a background that gives him deep fluency in breath mechanics, tone production, and air support principles that apply across every wind instrument, including the tuba's uniquely large air demands. Before joining Hilton, Ashton taught high-school band and chorus for grades 5 through 12, which means he knows the school band world from the inside: what band directors need from a tuba section, what NYSSMA adjudicators listen for in the low brass, and how to get a student from first lesson to confident audition performance.
Tuba is part of the full brass program Ashton runs at Colonie Center. He works with all ages and all starting points — from a 5th-grader entering school band for the first time to a high school student preparing for All-State. Lessons run in person at Colonie Center and online.
